Kathryn Peterson, JD, Senior Vice President and General Counsel
Kathryn "Katie" Peterson has a wide range of experience working in the Congress, the Administration, the private sector, and on behalf of hospitals and health care systems, higher education institutions, municipalities, and international NGOs. At Merchant McIntyre, she develops comprehensive federal funding strategies and supports clients in their advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill and before the Administration. Katie has secured over $100 million in discretionary funding on behalf of Merchant McIntyre clients.
Prior to joining Merchant McIntyre, Katie worked as a Congressional Affairs Specialist at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. While at FDA, she handled legislative portfolios on a variety of health care issues including prescription drug abuse, generic drug approval, drug labeling, patent exclusivity issues in the pharmaceutical industry, and the regulation of tobacco products. She also helped coordinate policy activity for the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research and the Center for Tobacco Products, and prepared written and oral testimony for FDA officials testifying before Congressional committees.
Katie began her career in Washington as a legislative aide to U.S. Senator Bill Nelson, representing her home state of Florida.
Katie received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and German from Stetson University, and earned her Juris Doctor from Washington and Lee University School of Law.
In addition to her client services role, Katie serves as Merchant McIntyre's general legal counsel. She is licensed to practice law in Virginia.
