Sharon Valente, Ph.D., MBA
Dr. Sharon Valente is an expert on educational assessment. She works collaboratively with the Merchant McIntyre team to support the development of grant applications for colleges and other nonprofit institutions. She achieves these goals by preparing research assessments, formulating logic models, assessing team strengths and weaknesses, and preparing literature reviews in support of federal grant applications.
Sharon developed her affiliation with Merchant McIntyre as a client during her previous service at Marymount California University.
Sharon’s scholarly work includes a focus on student success and her 2007 presidential address at Mid-Western Educational Research Association (MWERA), which was titled “The Heart of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning: Lifelong Mentoring,” spoke to the importance of mentoring of faculty and students as a necessary prerequisite to helping students succeed. Sharon provided her expertise to the Association for Institutional Research (AIR) on an NCES grant to present workshops on how to use IPEDS data to enhance student learning through her role as Director of Conference Special Programs for Eastern Educational Research Association (EERA). She uses applied research in support of faculty professional development and she has an established record of excellence in teaching and scholarly productivity. The scholarship of teaching and learning is one of her main areas of research.
Sharon Valente holds a Ph.D. in Research Methods and Finance from The University of Akron (Akron, Ohio) and a Master of Business Administration (Economics) from Seattle University (Seattle, Washington).
